The Miami Valley School is an independent, college-preparatory day school in Dayton, Ohio. It also has a middle school program.

History

The Miami Valley School's high school quiz team has a somewhat sporadic history, with the program enduring dormant intervals between bursts of success.

In 1995-96, MVS captured the WHIO-TV High-Q Championship under the direction of coach Robert Flavin. In 2005-06, the team won another High-Q title under Flavin, defeating defending champion Tippecanoe in a come-from-behind victory. That squad was led by seniors John Nelson and Kevin Hendricks, with support from senior Peter Williams, juniors Rachel Atkins and Sarah Jacobs, and freshman Tyler Benedict.

MVS also holds two second-place finishes at High-Q, losing a rematch with Tippecanoe in 2006-07 and falling to defending champion Carroll in 2008-09. Miami Valley fell to Carroll's championship team in the 2007-08 Final Four.

Under advisor Mark Ash, Miami Valley qualified for HSNCT for the first time, finishing 5-5 in 2008. The squad was comprised of Tyler Benedict (captain), David Fulero, Alex Keen, Nate Rowland, Daniel Jacobs, and Danny Yanes.

MVS appeared at HSNCT for a second consecutive year in 2009, finishing 4-6 with a team of Benedict, Jacobs, Yanes, Akash Goyal, and Sam Guggenheimer.

In 2015-16, Miami Valley's high school program began to experience success once again, thanks to a strong freshman class including Max Mader, Elena Cebulash, Liam Burns, and Amay Kejriwal. The 2016-17 iteration of the team features new freshmen John John Groger, Jordan Bradstreet, Eleanor Peters, Shraya Sandhir, and Alex Misick. MVS won the 2016 Solon Fall Tournament, 2016 OAC Fall at Ohio State, Tippecanoe Academic Challenge XXI, 4th Annual Waverly Invitational, 2017 Miami Invitational at Miami University, and the 2017 Mason Mashup Invitational.
