Miami Valley School (middle school)
The Miami Valley School is an independent, college-preparatory day school in Dayton, Ohio. It also has a high school program.
The Miami Valley School's middle school quiz team was founded in 2014 by MVS alum Tyler Benedict.
In its first year of existence, the MVS middle school team won the Olentangy Hyatts AQUILA MS tournament and also won the high school JV division at Northmont OAC. Miami Valley A won the inaugural Ohio NAQT MS state championship with an 8-1 record and 24.56 PPB, while Miami Valley B tied for third with a record of 5-3. The first team was led by captain Max Mader, with support from John John Groger, William Groger, and Amay Kejriwal.
In 2015-16, Miami Valley's middle school program won the Olentangy Liberty Give Thanks For Quizbowl tournament and qualified for the 2016 MSNCT. MVS won its second consecutive NAQT MS state championship in April 2016, again with an 8-1 record, while the B team finished in fifth place with a record of 6-2. Miami Valley A was led by captain John John Groger, with support from William Groger, Sahir Kabir, and Vera Menafee, while Miami Valley B was made up of Eleanor Peters (captain), Jordan Bradstreet, Shraya Sandhir, Ronnie Rajotte, Hayden Gibson, and Ryan Evans.
At the 2016 MSNCT, Miami Valley finished tied for fifth with an 11-3 record. The team was comprised of the Groger brothers, Sahir Kabir, Vera Menafee, Eleanor Peters, and Jordan Bradstreet. John John Groger was the 3rd place All-Star for the tournament with 98.92 PPG.
During the 2016-17 season, Miami Valley MS A was made up of William Groger (captain), Sahir Kabir, Sam Mader, and Andrew Holzinger. The team won the Harvest Prep Invitational as well as the Ohio Middle School State Championship. Groger also played solo at the Copley Invitational and Northmont Middle School Invitational, winning both events. The A team remained undefeated against middle school competition until round 17 of the national championship, when it lost to Middlesex Middle in the winner's bracket semifinal after going 8-0 on Saturday and earning the #1 seed in the playoffs. The team finished in fourth place at the 2017 MSNCT with a 13-3 record. William Groger was the tournament's leading scorer and first place All-Star with 130.73 PPG.
Miami Valley hosted its first tournament, the Miami Valley Fall Kickoff, in September 2017. In the middle school division, Miami Valley A, made up of Andrew Holzinger, Lekha Choudary, Hannah Marlowe, and Ronnie Rajotte, won the tournament championship. Holzinger was also the leading scorer for the tournament with 90.00 PPG. Four other Miami Valley teams entered the middle school division, setting a new program record for players attending a tournament.
