Brendan Bethlehem, aka bweb, is a quizbowl player who studies Linguistics at Cambridge and is the current President of the Cambridge University Quiz Society. From North London and educated at the extremely posh Westminster School, he is noted for being able to buzz well on almost all the distribution and for having a humorous surname.

University Career

Brendan started playing quizbowl in the 2023/24 season, starting with Penn Bowl and then playing various tournaments on both Cambridge A and B, garnering a reputation for powering a lot and negging even more. Most notably he led Cambridge B to the top bracket at the 2024 British Student Quiz Championships, narrowly losing to Imperial A after a protest was resolved in Imperial's favour.

Since July 2024, Brendan has been the President of Cambridge University Quiz Society, succeeding Rhys Lewis. He is also currently serving as UKQB's Outreach Officer.

Brendan formed part of the Christ's College, Cambridge team which won the 2024/25 series of University Challenge along with captain Oscar Despard, Linus Luu and Anniko Firman, defeating Warwick 175–170 in the final. The humorous combination of his college and surname ("Christ's Bethlehem") was much remarked-upon online.

He has head-edited for British Novice 2025 and COOT 2026, having also previously edited for British Novice 2024, TRASH IN THE ATTIC I, COOT 2025, ACF Winter 2025 and TRASH IN THE ATTIC II.
