Columbia Independent School (sometimes abbreviated CIS) is a small private independent school in Columbia, Missouri which fields high school and middle school quizbowl teams.

MSHSAA History

In 2012, CIS lost the Class 1 title match to Mound City. In 2016, the high school team was the Class 1 state runner-up, losing the championship game to fellow independent school Thomas Jefferson. CIS's Will Devoy was also the top scorer in Class 1 in 2016. In 2015, CIS was knocked out at the sectional level after losing to eventual Class 1 champions that year Tuscumbia.

The high school quizbowl team won Columbia Independent's first ever state championship in any activity in Class 2 of the 2022 MSHSAA State Championship, resulting in the school moving up to Class 3 the following season. Upon winning Class 3 in the 2023 MSHSAA State Championship, they became the first school to win state championships in multiple classes during the six-class era. This feat was never accomplished during the four class era, when movement between classes was entirely based on changing school sizes.

Circuit History

The high school team frequently attends the NAQT Missouri Qualifier, often earning spots in the championship playoff pools.

The team hosts several MOQBA-certified tournaments, most frequently at the middle school level.

Middle School/Elementary
