Jacob Reed is an alumnus of Yale College, the Yale School of Music, and East Chapel Hill High School in North Carolina. He is generally considered to be one of the greatest music players in the history of the game, along with John Lawrence and Kevin Koai. He began playing on Yale A during his freshman year, helping them to snag a 2nd place finish at the 2014 ICT. Since then, his accomplishments have included winning the 2016 Chicago Open on a team led by Jordan Brownstein, and leading the Yale squad to victory at the 2018 and 2019 ICTs.

In 2019, Jacob announced that he would be matriculating at the University of Chicago for a PhD.

Jacob stated that he would be leaving quizbowl "for the foreseeable future" in the summer of 2020, after the revelation of an inappropriate relationship between himself and another member of the Chicago quizbowl club.
