James E. Taylor High School (commonly known as Katy Taylor), is a 9-12 high school in Katy, Texas whose quizbowl team is coached by Chris Harris. From 2015 to 2019, Taylor was consistent national powerhouse, led by top scorer William Golden. During this stretch, Taylor placed in the top three of four consecutive TQBA State Championships, winning the event back-to-back in 2018 and 2019. Additionally, Taylor won both the 2017 and 2018 iterations of the notoriously difficult Texas Invitational. Taylor also saw considerable national success, winning the 2016 NHBB JV National Championship, and placing in the top ten of each of the 2017, 2018, and 2019 HSNCTs. Taylor attended their first NSC in 2018, finishing fourth, and followed up the next year by finishing as runner-up to Thomas Jefferson. Following Golden's departure, Taylor has been led by Mitchell Shadden, who led the 2022 HSNCT field in scoring en route to a T-39th finish.
