Joel Miles is a player at the University of Minnesota. In high school, Joel played for Raymore-Peculiar, where they led the team to its first Class 6 MSHSAA State Championship. On the national stage, they won the 2021 ONCT as the lead scorer of "Scalene Triangle." Joel was ranked 9th in the 2021 GrogerRanks player poll.

Joel's subject editing credits include the first four editions of the Missouri high school regs set SHOW-ME (for which they edited various categories) and 2023 ACF Winter (for which they edited philosophy). Joel was also the head editor for the third and fourth iterations of SHOW-ME, the latter of which is currently being mirrored across the country as part of the 2025-2026 season.

With Conor Thompson, Joel wrote a large percentage of the four dot American geography and culture side event TOWNS.

Joel is also a frequent non-quizbowl quiz player. While they are almost certainly better at such formats, Joel would still rather play quizbowl nine times out of ten.
