It competes in competes in Class AA, the "large school" division, of the Illinois High School Association’s State Championship Series. The Ironmen are long-time members of the Big 12 Conference & Intercity Scholastic Bowl league.

Along with Conference rivals, Bloomington, & University (Normal), Normal Community have been historically one of the stronger quiz bowl programs in the area over the years.
