Region 1 used the one day exemption and only
played a final (what looked to be an exciting final
between BU and Providence) instead of going to a four
team playoff. We were the number four team and I
really would have liked one more shot at Providence (the
1 seed), but because of this format we were shutout
of the playoffs. I understand the time commitment
would have been large, but we were out of there earlier
then most circuit tournaments, so I'm not sure the
time situation was a good excuse for not running a
four team playoff format. I'm not sure the results
would have been any different, but we would have at
least had a chance to iron out any discrepancies in
seeding caused by unfavorable packets and
such.
What bothered me more was the hypothetical situation
(which looked like it might happen up until the final
round) that the top three would finish in a circle of
death and tiebreakers would have chosen the top two for
the final. We would not have been in the the circle,
but it would have been very unfair in my opinion to
leave a team out of the playoffs who has only one loss
simply because of point differential, something we were
told would happen.
