Itamar Naveh-Benjamin is a former player for UVA, former president of the Missouri Quizbowl Club, and a former player for Hickman High School.
Career
High school
During the 2012-2013 season, Itamar led Hickman to become the second-best program in the state, finishing only behind Ladue at most tournaments. This culminated in a t-31 performance at 2013 NSC; Hickman did not attend HSNCT.
Itamar co-directed the 2013 Missouri Fall Academic Tournament and Tiger Bowl VI with Avery Wagner.
College
Itamar led the DII Missouri team to t-5 at 2014 ICT. Over his years at Missouri, Itamar gradually elevated the team to being within striking distance of the top teams of the Midwest on the strength of his ability as a supergeneralist. With him at the helm, Missouri placed 26th at the 2016 ICT, 19th in 2017, and 11th in 2018. At his only appearance at ACF Nationals in 2018, Missouri tied for 14th. That year, Itamar was the top scorer at both ACF Nationals and ICT.
After he started medical school at Virginia in 2019, the prospect of Itamar having solid support immediately earned his team a ranking of 6th in the pre-season poll; however, the cancelling of 2020 nationals due to COVID-19 meant that there was no way to confirm the team's strength. For the next three competition years, he was occasionally able to attend regional tournaments (and putting up eye-popping stats while doing so), but only attended one more national, 2023 ICT, at which his team delivered expected favorites Chicago A their pivotal first of two losses.
Writing and Editing
Itamar is an accomplished writer and editor, including of science; his credits include 2015 Missouri Open, 2019 Fall Open, 2021 Chicago Open, and Winter Closed.
