This article describes the quizbowl team at the University of Oklahoma. For high school quizbowl in the state of Oklahoma, see here.

The University of Oklahoma is located in Norman, Oklahoma. The Oklahoma quizbowl team has been active since the mid-1990s, and remains a fixture in both the collegiate quizbowl circuit in the south, as well as the Oklahoma high school quizbowl circuit.

History

The University of Oklahoma Academic Team was started in 1993 by Eric Bell and Dan Beshear. Led by Bell, the Oklahoma team placed third at the 1997 NCT and fourth at that year's ACF Nationals. After Bell's departure, Oklahoma continued to be a fairly competitive team under the leadership of Beshear and Emily Moore, reaching the top bracket at both ICT and ACF Nationals on several occasions.

In more recent years, an Oklahoma team centered around the trio of Maia Karpovich, Finn Bender, and Caleb Kendrick led the team to several top twenty finishes at ICT and ACF Nationals between 2016 and 2018. During this run, Oklahoma claimed the 2016 ACF Division II title, as well as the 2017 ICT Undergraduate title.

Hosting

Oklahoma was host to the first-ever HSNCT, which was held in 1999. At a local level, Oklahoma formerly hosted the Boren Cup, a long-running high school tournament on IS questions which doubled as the NAQT State Championship until 2004; in more recent years, it has hosted the Oklahoma Early Fall Tournament, an early-season event using A-sets. In 2021, Oklahoma hosted its first college tournament, holding an online mirror of ACF Winter.
