Oops, my mistake. Sorry I missed that. It seems that the other ICTs are listed as "xxxx ICT" rather than "xxxx NAQT ICT." I guess I'd lean towards keeping that pattern going but I'm amicable to either way. Michael Arnold

In particular, I think the term "ICT" is unique enough as a term that people know it means NAQT. "Nationals" is generic enough that calling it "ACF Nationals" is worthwhile and also reflects the common way of referring to it. Michael Arnold

I blanked the page, you can go ahead and delete it. Sorry about that, it was done as a birthday gift for him. Eventually, I will add useful information to his page.

Do we still have a "humor" tab or a "meta" tab? Ben Gutscher 16:44, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

Nope, sorry. Jonah 03:55, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Any chance we can get a stub template?--Fred Morlan 19:56, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

What's the site's policy on wiki vandalism? [[1]] Dan Donohue 04:43, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

All vandalism will be removed; that has already been done. Jonah 05:06, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

National championships

Can I ask why this was reverted? Thanks in advance, Alex Liu (talk) 18:01, 21 November 2013 (PST)

No idea; I must have misclicked while trying to revert the edit to IHSSBCA Hall of Fame. I'll fix it. Jonah (talk) 18:44, 21 November 2013 (PST)

Editing Permission

Hi, I don't know where else to put this, but was just wondering if I should edit the MCTC page to incorporate the actual logo of the school, or just leave it the way it is. Thanks, Peter

Either way Jonah (talk) 05:14, 16 April 2014 (PDT)
It's beautiful why would you want to change it Alex Liu (talk) 09:19, 16 April 2014 (PDT)
I understand that, but the line on this wiki between presenting a factual basis and a lighthearted one seems thin. I know its just a little thing, but I always like to lean toward the side of being factual (for the wiki). Peter13
don't you touch my logo, you fiend --Rob Carson (talk) 13:43, 16 April 2014 (PDT)
that logo is super great. Cody Voight (talk) 13:53, 16 April 2014 (PDT)

QBWiki:Quizbowl Wiki:Community Portal

Hi Jonah,

Can you please delete QBWiki:Community Portal so that QBWiki:Quizbowl Wiki:Community Portal can be moved there? Thanks, Gregory Gauthier (talk) 07:43, 26 May 2014 (PDT)

Done Jonah (talk) 10:31, 26 May 2014 (PDT)
You accidentally deleted the page I wanted to move. In any event, I created a stub community portal at QBWiki:Community Portal, so the issue is moot, unless there was history at QBWiki:Quizbowl Wiki:Community Portal worth saving. Thank you, Gregory Gauthier (talk) 14:21, 26 May 2014 (PDT)
Crap, sorry, I had just woken up and was still a little woozy. Let me know if I should go back and do something else (e.g. restoring the page or something with the right page this time). Jonah (talk) 15:04, 26 May 2014 (PDT)

Thank you

I just would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for banning Zachary Yan. I thought he had stopped editing over the last month, but I thought wrong. So please accept my warm regard from not having to reformat a table or fix (large) spelling and grammatical errors.

Nathan Weiser's sweater

That Nathan Weiser sweater article was truly wonderful - why did it need to be deleted? Team in-jokes can get out of hand, but this has broad applications as it made many notable appearances at numerous tournaments where the wider quizbowl community took note of it. Also, it was actually humorous. Cody Voight (talk) 21:07, 8 June 2014 (PDT)

A page dedicated to an in-joke is overkill. I'll restore it on Nathan Weiser's page. Jonah (talk) 22:23, 8 June 2014 (PDT)

Please delete this broken redirect

Hi Jonah,

I came across File:Fuchs-Williams Dynasty.jpeg, which redirects to a deleted file and is not in use. Can you please delete the redirect? Thanks, Gregory Gauthier (talk) 17:51, 17 May 2016 (CDT)

QBWiki name change policy?

Hi Jonah,

Does QBWiki have a policy on how to refer to people who participated in quiz bowl but have since changed their name (such as Maia Karpovich)? I think a sensible policy would be, in the case of events, to refer to people by the name they used at the time of the event, otherwise by their current name. Thanks, Gregory Gauthier (talk) 11:38, 5 August 2017 (CDT)

No formal policy as yet, but here is what I think is wise, what I propose, and what will therefore be the policy unless and until I am convinced otherwise or a more formal decision-making structure arises:
People on the QBWiki should be referred to by the most recent name they prefer to be referred to by, as long as that name is not obscene, chosen to create confusion, chosen to facilitate cheating, or otherwise obvious nonsense. In cases where this name has changed over time, it may be appropriate to add an explanatory note about former names. If a person is not explicit about their preferences, editors may infer their preferences from the most recent full name used in quiz bowl statistics, postings, etc.
The goal is to be respectful of people's preferences and identities, including the fact that people may have changed how they identify publicly and privately at different times in different aspects of their life, while also supporting the integrity of quiz bowl competition and the understanding of the history of quiz bowl. Fred Morlan edit

Whoops... I just thought the wording on Mr. Morlan's article was a tiny bit unclear (since it might sound like West Virginia Wesleyan is also the name of his high school). Nate Kang (talk) 16:12, 6 May 2019 (CDT)

2008 HSNCT

When you threatened to ban me for editing down Arjun Nageswaran's article, your stated reason was that "You can make the prose less florid; you can reorganize; do not remove facts that are relevant to quiz bowl." Why did you remove the section on your page explaining why you did not attempt the 2008 HNSCT? Kevin Wang (talk) 09:04, 10 December 2020 (CST)

The statements in that edit were all either false (since I did attend the 2008 HSNCT and my "software career" is older than that incident), not about quiz bowl (the actual incident), or not about me (my former team's placement). So they were not "facts that are relevant to quiz bowl". Furthermore, I think there's a significant difference between writing about an incident that took place more than 12 years ago and had nothing to do with quiz bowl and removing information about the recent quiz bowl accomplishments of an active player. The instruction I gave you was tailored to the situation we were talking about then; it wasn't meant to be a perfect articulation of an overall rule. I've been okay with removing details of long-ago incidents even in quiz bowl if the subject wants them removed and there doesn't seem to be any significant benefit to keeping them; this is also consistent with that. Page deletion request

Would you mind deleting the Template:Name and Template:Fullname pages? I was hoping they would be useful for filling in infoboxes but because of the way that templates interact they are in fact not. I found a work-around anyways, so all these are doing now are taking up namespace that could potentially be used for something better. -Kevin Wang (talk) 16:48, 14 March 2021 (CDT)

Done. Jonah (talk) 17:09, 14 March 2021 (CDT)

Same for the Template:pre. -Kevin Wang (talk) 18:18, 14 March 2021 (CDT)

Also done. Jonah (talk) 18:19, 14 March 2021 (CDT)

I believe I kept the relevant details. I apologize for including the victim's name, although I'd like to point out that it is *very* prominently available on the original HSquizbowl thread (the victim posted the first post).

I primarily edited Ophir's version of the page to present a more neutral perspective (as Kevin stated), although this came at the loss of content.

I saw Kevin's impressive addition, although I worry that its dangerous to be including information publicly that was meant to be private. Some of the quotations Tuhin said were said via private friend DMs.

Shiva Oswal (talk) 14:49, 22 May 2021 (CDT)

I know the victim's name is available on HSQB. For one thing, it's in a protected forum (though, admittedly, I think the only obstacle to seeing that is to create an account, which is a pretty low bar). For another, it is the victim sharing their own story rather than being named in nth-party reports. For a third, the victim specifically requested not to be named on the QBWiki. So we're going to keep their name off of it unless they change their mind.
If content on the current page is only available in DMs, not in other places such as HSQB, it should be removed. I'll mention that to Kevin. Jonah (talk) 16:42, 22 May 2021 (CDT)
