2023 SSNCT
The 2023 Small School National Championship Tournament was the ninth iteration of NAQT's SSNCT, held on April 22-24 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont, IL. As with recent iterations, the tournament was split into two separate divisions: the Traditional Public Schools Division, which was open to public schools with 500 or fewer students enrolled in the top three grades; and the Open Division, which was open to schools which did not meet the definition of a "Traditional Public School" and which had 350 or fewer students enrolled in their top three grades. The Traditional Public Schools Division also contained a Very Small Schools subdivision, which consisted of public schools with 300 or fewer students enrolled in their top three grades.
77 teams contested the Traditional Public Schools division, 46 of which were categorized as Very Small Schools. A further 55 teams contested the Open Division.
Traditional Public Schools Division
Fair Grove went 18-1 to claim their first SSNCT title. Fair Grove also claimed the Very Small Schools title, after having finished as Runnersup in that category for the previous two years. Fair Grove were only the second team to claim both titles since Westmont in 2021. Fair Grove's sole loss of the tournament was to fellow Missouri rival Houston. Following that match, Fair Grove defeated every opponent averaging 647 PPG enroute to decisively rout Southwestern 655-165 for the title. It was the first national championship appearance for either team.
