Jade Dai is an incoming quiz bowl freshman at Northwestern University widely regarded as one of the strongest history and political science specialists of his generation, participating in both IAC and NAQT national and international competitions. He is also renowned as arguably the best ever individual player to develop from the Plano West ranks, leading their "second golden generation" to a statistical performance not seen since the post-2018 era.
He is the former president of the Plano West quiz bowl team and the Jasper High School Quiz Bowl team. He was formerly the president of the Rice Middle School Quiz Bowl team, succeeding Abraham Zhang and Frank (Zihan) Xu and preceding Goutham Krishna Ronanki and Alexander Zhao. He has maintained a six-year status in Quiz Bowl, participating in 2 PISD Middle School Quiz Bowl Championships, 2 PISD Quiz Bowl High School Championships, 1 TQBA State Championship. 3 Cistercian High Schools Invitationals, 3 St. Marks Invitationals, 6 TQBA Online Invitationals , 2 University of Washington events, 1 L.D. Bell Invitational, 1 Greenhill Fall Invitational, and 1 Costa Rica International Pool Bash. He competed in the 2024, 2025, and 2026 NAQT Individual Player National Championship Tournaments, placing 147th, 19th, and 109th respectively and landing categorical places such as 29th in Geography and 23rd/15th in History. He also participated in the 2026 High School National Championship Tournament, scoring 59 PPG (the most by a Plano West player at a nationals tournament) and leading his team to a 7-5 record and t65th place.
Additionally, he has attended the 2025 and 2026 IAC National Championships. For this sidequest he has landed semifinals in the US History Bee x 2, National History Bee, National Geography Bee, and National Academic Bee, and medals in the European History exam (2025 gold) and 3rd place finishes in World History and American History exams (2025 bronze x 2 and 2026 bronze x 1), he entered his generational peak at the 2025 International History Olympiad, winning 9th place overall, 6th place on the Battery Exam, 10th place on the Written Exam, 10th place in the International History Bee World Championships, and bronze medals in the International History Bowl World Championships and Hexthalon with Sean Pastalaniec and Justin Sun, and in the South American exam, in addition to finalist positions in Scramble, Knockout, and French History Bee.
He has additionally participated in countless packet mirrors on HSQuizBowl both with his regular Plano West team, in which they have maintained a decent nationwide presence, and with occasional chimera teams from the Texan circuit and beyond.
Jade specializes in history, current events, politics, Christian religion, and soccer. Recently, he has additionally traversed to an expanded interest in geography. He is also the manager of the NAQT-sponsored buzzword community identified as the "International Jasper High School Association's Buzzword Grind".
Jade supports the strategic team framework of incorporating 3 acute specialists and 1 carry-oriented specialist/generalist hybrid. He believes the ideal framework is one hist specialist, a double pivot of strong sci specialists, and a specialist in the fine arts/humanities. He also encourages his specialists to study minor categories such as architecture that will be crucial in bonus optimization. Lastly, he believes in stacking 6+ people in a single team so he can have a wide bench available in all circumstances.
