Superpowers (gimmick)

Not to be confused with the variant form of power tossups currently used at some tournaments.

At several trash tournaments and at least one academic tournament run by Boston-area teams Boston University and Boston College in the mid-2000s, each player could claim one of a set of "superpowers" at the start of the tournament. Players could use these abilities to alter the course of gameplay in various ways. This was part of a trend towards "fun" rules alterations in trash tournaments that petered out around 2010.
