The Ohio State University (often shortened to OSU) is a large public university located in Columbus, Ohio. In recent years, their quizbowl team has been a consistent top-bracket threat, led by the duo of Chris Ray and Clark Smith.
History
OSU made their first appearance at ACF Nationals in 1996, finishing the tournament with a 5-7 record. The team competed sporadically from then until 2010, when it began making more consistent tournament appearances. In 2012 and 2013, an OSU team led by Jasper Lee, Jarret Greene, and Peter Komarek claimed back-to-back ICT Division I Undergraduate titles. During this run, the team made its first top-bracket appearance at ACF Nationals in 2012 and ICT in 2013.
After the arrival of Chris Ray and a then-dual enrolled Clark Smith in 2017, OSU has become a consistent national contender. Playing without Ray, OSU placed 3rd in Division II of the 2017 ICT. Since then, the team has placed in the top ten of every national championship since 2018, achieving a best finish of 4th at 2021 ACF Nationals.
