Prior to the 2014 VHSL Realignment, VHSL Region A was a VHSL region in class A, consisting of schools with less than 700 students lying in the generally more eastern parts of the Commonwealth. It contained the Eastern Shore District, Northern Neck District, Tidewater District, and Tri-Rivers District. Like all VHSL regions, it sent two teams to the VHSL Scholastic Bowl state championship tournament for the sixteen-year duration of the original Scholastic Bowl tournament structure.
