VHSL Class A (1998-2013)
Prior to the 2014 VHSL Realignment, VHSL Class A was one of three classes in VHSL Scholastic Bowl. In its final year, the old class A was defined as those schools with less than 700 students (barring exceptions which allowed certain schools to play up or down), and contained 98 total schools.
VHSL Class A consisted of VHSL Region A, VHSL Region B, VHSL Region C, and VHSL Region D. The state tournament was a double-elimination bracket consisting of the top two teams from each of those regions.

Teams from Class A which have had success at other quizbowl events notably include George Mason (High School), which won the national small school championship and tied for 21st overall in the country at the 2011 HSNCT.
