John Marvin (listed in early-year stats as "John Marvin Sipp") is a PhD candidate in Philosophy and Philosophy of Religions [sic] at the University of Chicago (perhaps surprisingly specialized in mathematical logic and its history/philosophy), having completed an MA in Philosophy of Religions there in 2021. As an undergraduate, he led a grassroots team at Boston College, having escaped the speed check-based New Hampshire circuit (a trajectory he shares with his former high school rivals Graham Reid, Tim Morrison, and Jordan Brownstein, which in a nearby possible world formed a Will-Alston-coached New Hampshire NASAT team for the ages that never fully materialized in ours). At Chicago, John was part of the Chicago A teams that won the 2025 ICT and lost the overtime final of 2025 ACF Nationals (to aforementioned rival Morrison's Stanford team).

John's writing credentials include heavy writing contributions to 2018 NASAT (for which he wrote a still-controversially under-edited third of the set) and PIANO, and head-editorship (with fellow editors Jason Golfinos, Wonyoung Jang, Clark Smith, and Adam Fine) of the CMST II open tournament.

He likes jazz, and spends most of his non-academic time playing jazz piano.
