- Not to be confused with Fall Open, an earlier Nats-minus set.
FLopen was a Nationals-minus collegiate open tournament produced in fall 2020 primarily by Florida. It was edited by Taylor Harvey and Jonathen Settle, and writers included Leo Law, Tracy Mirkin, William Grossman, Anthony Delgado, William Grossman, Zachary Knecht, Khanh Nguyen, Shawn Jarrard, Mateo Acosta, and Jason Zappulla of Florida, as well as sizable contributions from Ani Perumalla, Grant Peet, Mike Bentley, Lalit Maharjan, Nicholas Dai, and Zach Foster.
The tournament experimented with an larger per packet distribution of 22/22, all of which were intended to be played every round. This manifested through slight expansions to Other Arts, Social Science, and the scrutable "Other" category. Further experimentation occurred via humorous subtitles that changed with every packet, rather than a single one for the whole tournament; examples include "Packet D: ANSWER: embrace momke [reject 'modernity']" and "Packet I: https://imgur.com/a/VWaSRFf".
FLopen was generally well received by the quizbowl community.
FLopen's initial date of availability was planned to coincide with the 189th anniversary of the death of Hegel, although the Southeastern mirror planned for this date was cancelled for lack of interest.
