The University of California, Berkeley, also known as UC Berkeley, Cal, or simply Berkeley, is a large public university in Berkeley, California. After a period of dominance in the mid-2000s led by then-graduate student Jeff Hoppes and then-undergraduate Seth Teitler, the team contracted for several years until its more recent renaissance in the early 2010s. In the 2015-16 year, the Berkeley team was one of the largest (if not the largest) college quizbowl club of all time, and was semi-frequently able to field a J-team at events in its area [1].

The Berkeley A and B teams have also been regular top-bracket finishers at ACF Nationals in the late 2010s, and the A team finished 2nd at the 2018 ICT, losing to Yale in the second game of an advantaged final where they had the disadvantage.

Tournaments

Berkeley frequently hosts NAQT tournaments, and has run the Western Invitational Tournament in the fall in previous years and in the spring of 2013. They also host the Cal Classic for high school teams. Since 2012-2013, Berkeley has hosted a yearly series of four HS tournaments called the California Cup.
